Ki Aikido in Cardiff and Pontypridd
Welcome to the Cardiff and District Ki No Kenkyukai Dojos official website.
We run two Ki Aikido dojos in Cardiff and Pontypridd, these dojos are directly registered with the Ki No Kenkyukai headquarters in Japan.
Aikido is a martial art invented by the late Morihei Ueshiba (O-Sensei). Like other martial arts Aikido incorporates strikes, joint/nerve locks and throws, however it is the underlying principle of non-resistance that makes Aikido such an effective budo that can be practised by anyone.
In true Aikido, force is never met with force. Attacks are avoided, controlled, and guided back at the attacker. If you move with and guide an attack, there is no conflict, and the size and strength of your opponent become irrelevant.
Koichi Tohei Sensei began his study in Aikido under O-Sensei at the age of 19, he went on to achieve the highest rank in Aikido (10th Dan). He is the founder of the Ki No Kenkyukai (Ki Society) and Shin Shin Toitsu style Aikido.
Shin Shin Toitsu Aikido literally means "Aikido with mind and body unified". In practise we use Ki exercises to unify the mind and body and then apply this co-ordinated state to our Aikido technique. The Cardiff and District Ki No Kenkyukai Dojos have a history of 27 years of following the teachings of Master Koichi Tohei Sensei.
