John was very encouraging and checked many of my early compositions. Of course, this was long before computers came into general use.  Edgar Shepherd and Shirley Burton were also very encouraging.  Perhaps, on looking back at some of my early efforts they were tactful as well!  Later on Tim Pett, Bob Hardy and Peter Mackley checked and commented on my compositions.  I am very grateful to all of them and to those conductors who decided to call my compositions.
To access the compositions click on one of the following links:

Where compositions have been published this is indicated as follows :

  • LDG = Lincoln Diocesan Guild Annual Report
  • Comp 500, 501 and 502 = Collections published by John Longridge.

Other sources are identified in a footnote to the composition.
The majority of the rung compositions were called by myself or Jack Millhouse. Others who have called several have been Allan Ainsworth, David Brown, Ian Butters, John Freeman, Gerald Hemming, Chris Kippen, Mike Maughan, Tim Pett, Bert Rooke and Brian Warwick.
If any of the compositions have been rung or published and I have not noted this I would be grateful if you would let me know by email
(please note that you will need to amend the email address in your email program to substitute the -at- for @).  Indeed, I would be pleased to receive any other feedback.
