Night temperature is important. Cold chilli plants are retarded and will not produce the intense heat that we require as our objective here.
A simple solution is to fit a thermostatically controlled electric fan heater. It is simple enough to do, but should not be undertaken by anyone not competent to wire mains electricity. It is also advisable to fit an earth leakage trip.
The thermostat should be fitted at plant height and set to turn on the heater when the temperature drops to 70°F,21°C. Any millionaires out there could fit an air conditioning unit to switch on at say 85°F,30°C for perfect temperature control!!!!! The rest of us will rely on the roof vent operating correctly.
Beware of hot days in the summer as temperatures in excess of 95°F,35°C will cause blossom drop.
The fan heater should be protected with a hood to prevent water from falling or splashing onto it. Be careful not to block the air inlets though. It should then be placed in a position where it will not blow directly onto the plants, otherwise scorching will occur and they will be "blow dried".
