Motorcycle Digital Video Photography.

Digital Photography from a motorcycle riders perspective detailing when a rider could/should/or have been reasonably expected to perceive a danger ahead.

Digital Video Photography is taken from a Honda Pan European Motorcycle from a position which typically shows a riders line of sight.

Mathematical Reconstruction.

A mathematical reconstruction would typically show the amount of time available to observe a potential accident situation. It is a common occurrence for a rider to observe a vehicle when stationary and  react when a vehicle becomes a hazard, when it starts to move, which is often too late to avoid a collision.

Detailed accident scene reporting, with plans and photographs, show the distances at which the various parties would be visible and the time to cover that distance at any given speed.

In addition rider/driver reaction time/distance and braking time/distance is calculable which would show (1) if a rider could or could not  have braked to a stop and (2) if other road user had enough time to observe an approaching motorcycle, before manoeuvring into a potential accident situation

I am aware as a motorcyclist, of the frequency in which motorcycles are not observed, when they would be clearly in view to other motorists.

Calculation of the length of time a motorcyclist should have been visible clearly indicates if other road user were paying full attention.

Road Layout and Surface Conditions.

The road layout can greatly effect the visibility of a rider/driver and dictate the line of travel of a motorcyclist which may not be appreciated by non-motorcyclists.

Particular attention has to be taken of road repairs with ridges and surface changes, longitudinal ruts, potholes, dips and rises in the road surface, gravel, contaminants etc, which can seriously affect a motorcycle stability.

Defects in a road surface are not readily visible from a distance and can have a pronounced effect on motorcycle handling especially when cornering.

In this case a motorcyclist was taking a slightly wide line to avoid the road irregularities and was confronted by oncoming traffic which resulted in a change of the line over the road defects.
