A Young Readers Adventure

“The Rose On The River”

My name is Barbara Fletcher. I wrote the story, “A Rose On The River”, for children between the age of 9 to 12 years old. The level of difficulty of the text and the plot  is suitable for a very wide range of abilities for this age range. However, older readers, including adults, have enjoyed this charming adventure story.

This story is set in the fascinating English Tudor times. It blends fact and make-believe to create a story that twists and turns in an exciting and realistic way.

The book begins on the River Thames where we meet Robin, the main character, a boy of about twelve years of age. His life brings him into the world of two Elizabeth’s; one is the young daughter of King Henry V111, the other a bright clever young girl who becomes a close friend of Robin. We enter a world of plot and conspiracy where the life of the young Princess Elizabeth is put in real danger. We experience life in Tudor times in England and glimpse the intrigues of the Tudor royal court. This is a story to be read and re-read as we feel with our characters their fears and excitement. It is a story of danger and deceit, friendship and loyalty. Escape into the past and enjoy this fascinating book!
