Satellites Galas
Open Meet
The Satellite Open Meet is the biggest event run by the club and requires a great deal of effort by many parents. It is an event designated by the N.C.A.S.A. for entry into National Championships. This means that time achieved are valid as entry times for National Championships, all registered swimmers are eligible to take part and it attracts swimmers from all over the country. The Club has built up a reputation over the years for the standard of the event which we are proud of. Indeed the Meet is such quality to have attracted entries from Clubs based in Eire, Jersey, Belgium, Canada and in 1998 a team from Iceland. The result is that many of our own Club swimmers do not gain entry, however please submit your entries but do not be downhearted if you do not get a swim – you are up against some of the best in the Country, come and help instead, at least you can watch for free!
Club Championships
The Clubs own Championships are held annually in January. Age groups are 9/under, 10/11 years, 12/13 years, 14/15 years and open age group. Age as at 31st December in the year of competition. Distances competed over vary from 25m for the 9/under , 50m, 100m and 200m IM for the other age groups.
Sputnik Gala 2003 - Changes to Rules
The
main aspect of the Sputnik Gala is to encourage our younger and less experienced
swimmers to sample the excitement and discipline of competition.
It is open to all our Teaching Class pupils and club swimmers aged 7 to
10 years, 11year olds may enter on a time only basis.
The
galas are held three times a year, on a Sunday evening usually around April,
June and October and will be swam under A.S.A. rules with ages as on the day of
competition.
Points
will be awarded to overall first, second and third places in each
of the 7,8,9 10 years, and for each of the sexes. For practical purposes,
different age ranges and possibly sexes may compete in the same event, but final
placings will be made on the basis of recorded times for each age group, and
points awarded accordingly. Presentations are made at the end of each gala.
