Causton One-Name Study

Welcome to the international Causton One-Name Study home page. I started the one-name study in October 1997 and closed it in August 2006. I constructed this web site to contain as much as possible of the information gathered but no more information will be added. The information comes from many sources, many of them transcripts. It is important that you use the information on this site as a starting point for your own researches and check the original sources. It is not possible to gather this much information without making occasional errors.

An amazing number of variants have been found including Cason, Caston, Causon, Causten, Caustin, Causon, Cawson, Cawsten, Cawston, Corston, Costen, Costin, Costing, Coston, Costyn and Coyston. . Some of these variations are surnames in their own right and researchers of these names may find useful information in the Causton databases. For information on the origin and disribution of the Causton surname and a discussion on the variants please see the articles below.

The extent of the work completed when the study concluded is shown on a seperate page -click here

Thousands of new records have now been added including baptisms, burials and marriages.

John Causton, March 2007
