Father of Abraham is a malster, residing at Chippenham, on a farm of --- Thorp's Esq. of Chippenham Hall. Note apparently taken from pamphlet "Chippenham Croecus" at BM.
  Abraham Westerman Causton Timworth Note in D E Davy's handwriting in BM copy of "Chippenham Croecus" says: "Young Cawston afterwards got into Holy Orders and is now, or was lately, residing with his uncle at Timworth or Ingham and assisting in the education of his children".
  Abraham Cawston Shimpling According to the pedigree in the Master's Papers in Cawston v Parlett, Abraham Cawston of Shimpling Hall had a brother John who married Ann (sic) Westerman and sisters Mary who married Richard Wing and Susan who married William King.
  Abraham Cawston Rattlesdon The pedigree of his grandson in the Master's Papers in Cawston v Parlett places Abraham Cawston of Rattlesdon (died 1758) with an elder brother John and a younger brother William.

1617 Caston Holton Thomas Causton (Caston) of Holton in Bishopric of Durham married sister of John Hoster of Hexlyn Northumberland and had Robert Causton (Caston) of Holton, Durham, gent, son and heir, (living 1553). Robert married first Anne daughter of John and Ann* Browbridge (child Leonard Causton (Caston) of Ipswich, gent, son and heir, was 64 in 1617 and died 1618, married Alice (daughter and heir of Gransden**) and second Anne (living 1617) and had children Anne (eldest daughter), Frances (younger daughter - had son William Appleby in Fetter Lane 1617), James Caston (deceased 1617) and Henry Caston (living 1617) James may be the father of James Caston of Swilland who married Susan daughter and heir of James Barwick of Cretingham, died 1660. 1814 Cawston Ipswich By decree of the High Court of Chancery made in a cause Cawston v Parlett & Ors it is referred to William Morris Esq. one of the Masters of the said court to enquire and state to the court who is the heir at law ex parte paterna of Mary Cawston spinster who died at Bethnal Green county Middlesex on or about the 15th day of May 1806 and who was one of the children of William Cawston, formerly of Lawshall, in the Co. of Suffolk, gent, commonly called dumpling Cawston.   Elizabeth Causton London Letter to Archduke Leopold (no date). Council of State of commonwealth have been informed by petition of John Causton of London, merchant, that his eldest daughter Elizabeth Causton, a virgin, went with her brother Peter to Flanders to transact business and afterwards returned to Dunkirk about 13 October last. 1634 Elizabeth Cason Lawshall "Elizabeth Cason a very old impotent women, the wife of old Thomas Cason of Lawsell, this woman sojourning with her own daughter the wyfe of ffrancisse Smyth on rookeswoode greene in this towne, there she dyed on Tuesday morning very early in ye morning the 24 of March beeing our Ladyes even in Lent five dayes before Ester day and was buryed the same afternoone about 4 o'clock: in this churchyard anno domini 1634, per computation Angliae and Regis Caroli decimo but according to the date of the allmanacks 1635". 1664 Ellen Cason Maldon Samuel Plume of Maldon gent who signed at Visitation of Essex in 1664 was son of Thomas Plume of Maldon by his wife Ellen daughter of Philip Cason [Causton] of little Holland, Essex. Pedigree is at VIII 20.
1851 George Cawston London Samuel William Cawston had a second son George Cawston, born 1851, barrister who married Mary Ellen, daughter of late Richard Haworth of the Argued, Shropshire and had children: George H Cawston, Cecil Faulkener Cawston, 18th Hussars, died of wounds 1901, Ellen Winifred Louise (who married, 1904, Captain MPR Oakes, 5th Royal Irish Lancers) and Sylvia Phyllis.   John Cawston Lawshall John Cawston, son of William and Esther of Lawshall. In the Master's Papers for Cawston v Parlett (PRO C125/C/24) it seems to be generally assumed throughout that this John Cawston probably married Mary Varo. E.g. Charles Dalton of Lawshall gent swore that he had searched the registers of Lawshall. Shimpling and Hartest without finding the marriage of John Cawston to Mary Varo or any other person.

John Cawston of Latchingdon, Essex. An Inquisition Post Mortem (Chancery Series ii, vol LXXXIV p 52) of Powle Withypoll was held at Barking Essex on 20 August 1547, at which it was found that he had been seized of land at Maldon, Essex, which he had obtained "ex dono et concessione" of John Cawston of Latchingdon, yeoman and pastures called Savays between Wrightes and Smythcroft near Polstedes in "Wadham fferys" [Woodham Ferrers], Essex, similarly from John Cawston and Richard Osborne, citizen and grocer of London, held of the Bishop of London as of his castle of Stortford, Essex. 1560 John Cawston Hawkedon In 2 Edward VI John Cawston and John Andrews held the manor of Cresseners in Hawkedon of the honour of Clare by the service of half a knight's fee. In 3 Elizabeth John Cawston assured Cresseners to Anne Hammond his daughter and Thomas Hammond her husband. His will dated 8 Feb. 1560 was proved in 1564. Muskett's Suffolk Manorial Families.

1780 John Causton Fobbing Causton v Greenwood (C12/1377/17, bill filed 17 Feb 1786) was John Causton of Fobbing, Essex v Thomas Greenwood of Fobbing, miller. He described himself as John Causton late of Orsett, Essex but now of Fobbing, bricklayer and farmer. The case concerned a windmill in Fobbing with two closes of land (8 acres) adjoining, which JC agreed by deed 4 Sept 1780 to buy from TG for £176. One of the closes was then already rented by JC at rent of £2. 2s. p.a.
1782 John Causton Lavenham " Mr John Causton, schoolmaster, previously to his removal to Church Street, where he died 11th of September 1782, paid the Dansies rent for the whole of this part of the building seventy years back, so that it could not have been then a charity house". Footnote on p2 of H Mekeon, Inquiries into the Principle Charities of Lavenham (1826) (i.e. Mekeon's earlier book), referring to a house in the market place which was surrendered 20 Oct. 1795 by Mr Thomas Dansie, the last male representative of the family, to Mr William King, church warden, in trust for the poor of Lavenham.
1854 John Cawston   Henry Gunning in "Reminiscences of Cambridge" (1854), ii 304 - 314 says that in his capacity of Honary Sectretary of the Cambridgeshire Agricultural society he became aquainted with John Cawston (father of the fortunate youth), who held a large farm under Mr Thorpe of Chippenham. Of the fortunate youth he says: " the deceptions practised on his family were very cruel and must have been deeply felt. A gentleman conversing with a farmer who resided in Mr Cawston's neighbourhood asked him whether the disappointment, added to his son's misconduct, had materially altered him; to which he replied, that to him the only perceptible change was his taking his brandy and water stronger than he had before accustomed himself to".

1814 Robert Cawston Barrow In Master's Papers in Cawston v Parlett is a letter from Henry Topplis? Attorney, dated at Bury St Edmunds 30 Sept 1814, in answer to advt. in Bury paper of previous 10 Aug putting in the claim of a poor aged man named Robert Cawston late of Lawshall but now of Barrow. The pedigree submitted claimed that he was son of Robert Cawston (who had also some younger children) who was born at Lawshall and died at Stanningfield, and grandson of another Robert Cawston who died at Stanningfield. It claimed that this earliest Robert Cawston was younger son of William and Esther Cawston of Lawshall.

1616 Sampson Cawson Great Yarmouth A house, in the 16th C, belonged to a family called Grosse; and in 1616 was purchased of Sampson Cawson, baker, who died in 1675 [sic], and whose widow married Nicholas Turner. She in 1630, with concurrence of Rev. Nicholas Felton of Fordham, sold it to Joseph Haye, baker. Charles John Palmer FSA: Perlustration of Gt. Yarmouth (1874) vol. 2 p 415-6.
1716 Samuel Causton London From Causton v East India Co. (C11/2350/4, bill filed 12 Dec. 1716. Samuel Causton of London, merchant, set out from London, 26 Feb. 1690, for the East Indies in service of East India Co. in ship Moderna, Capt. William Wildey commander, bound for Surat, with cargo etc. belonging to said Samuel Causton worth £600, consigned to Bartholomew Harris Esq. president of companies factory at Surat, in case of death or absence of said Samuel Causton. On outward voyage touched at Grand Canaries, and sailed on leaving Samuel Causton, with others, behind., who afterwards returned to England. In 1692 or 1693 with ship Resolution for Surat with cargo of £400, consigned as before to Sir John Gayre, president of Co. at Surat. Samuel Causton died during passage, 11 Sept 1693. Will 27 Aug. 1691, appointing father Peter Causton of London, merchant, excr. and sole legatee proved 24 Sep 1694 (PCC). Peter Causton died 25 Nov. 1700; will dated 19 July 1699, proved 3 Jan 1700 (PCC) made daughter Charity wife of James Causton on London, merchant sole exx. See notes on East India Co. At XV 6-7.

Petition of Richard and Henry Truelove of Ipswich on behalf of themselves and others, heirs at law to Thomas Causton, late of Thundersley Essex, gent and martyr. Thomas Causton was seizes of freelands and copyholds in Essex and elsewhere. 7 Nov. 1 & 2 Philip & Mary he surrendered all copyholds in Tillingham to use of William his son who (and his heirs) have since enjoyed them. T C was burnt as a heretic, as see Book of Martyrs and all other land seizes by crown. William, son of TC, dsp. Elizabeth only sister married William Truelove, petitioners grandfather. Petitioners supported Parliament in civil War. June 1650.

Thomas Causton of Oxted made deed with Nicholas Fowell of Washurst 10 April 30 Elizabeth had a child William Causton of Oxted (deceased) who had children Thomas Causton* of Chertsey (deceased) and William Cawston**. *Thomas Causton died about 25 years ago (say 1663) and married ? Agnes and had had son Henry Causton, citizen tiler and bricklayer of London, eldest son. **William Causton had a son Thomas.

Several answers of Thomas Cason of London, merchant, defendant to bill of complaint of Jane Cason of St Martin in Fields spinster admx. of Dorothy Cason deceased. Jane and Dorothy sisters. About Oct. 1710 Dorothy Cason fell sick and on 26 Oct. died. Defendant denies she made will. Defendant is nephew and brother's son of said deceased.

1731 Thomas Cawston Felbrigg Thomas Cawston of Felbrigg, Norfolk, born 1731 was probably identical with Thomas Cawston of St Mary le Strand, London, died 1781; who was father of Samuel Cawston; who was father of Samuel William Cawston; who was father of George Cawston of the stock exchange, who bought the Manor of Cawston and built a manor house there, afterwards sold to Mr Cheetham. 1736 Thomas Causton Savannah Georgia In Georgia 1736 John Wesley met Sophia Christianna Hopkey, niece of the wife of Thomas Causton, chief magistrate of Savannah. On 8 March 1736/7 she married William Williamson. Wesley excluded her from communion. See DNB article on John Wesley.
1825 Thomas Causton Turweston Thomas Causton DD was the complainant in Causton v Mucklew [ (C13/1767/46) bill filed 2 Nov 1825]. He was described in the bill as of Turweston Bucks. His wife Mary Ann was the only child of John Balchen Esq. At the date of the bill the only surviving executor of John Balchen was John Whitmore of Wimpole Street Middlesex Esq.
