Shot of the Month…
September
Shot Of The Month or should I say Shots of the month for September goes to Sandra Chalkley for a great performance in the Luton and District League match against Houghton Regis. Although the game was lost, Sandra was the stand out performer on the day. Congratulations to Sandra who will go into the draw at the Club dinner dance for Shot Of the Year and a bottle of bubbly.
August
Shot Of The Month goes to Richard Chalkley in the friendly match against Clarence Park, St Albans on 6th August. Four down in the head, Richard (playing for the first time at 3) trailed the jack to pick up 4 shots which amounted to an 8 shot reversal. Well done to Richard whose name will go into the draw at the Club Dinner for a bottle of Champagne.
July
Shot Of The Month goes to Tom Cawdell. In his Open Round County Pairs match against Barton, Tom and Jim Allen were on the verge of conceding the game, 13 shots back with 4 ends to play. Tom turned the game on its head on the 19th end when having already picked up 5 shots on the previous end, picked up a 6th by removing Barton’s 2 woods from the head. They then picked up 1 and 2 over the following ends to win the match by just 1 shot, leaving their opponents and spectators stunned and bemused. It just goes to show that the game is never over until a lady of a certain size sings (political correctness prevents me from stating whether this lady was thin, fat or had an hour glass figure).
Tom goes into the draw at the Club Dinner at the end of the season for a bottle of Champagne.
June
Shot of the month for June was a close call between Jack Cawdell (alias `Poodle’) and John Nixon. Poodle cast the jack just 4.0m in the County League game against Houghton Regis but given that no bowl was involved, there could only be one contender. Shot of the month goes to John Nixon, a novice bowler in his first season, who on the 17th end of the District League game against Luton Co-Op (his first league game), bowled a “front toucher” to help secure victory for the Town.
Congratulations to John (pictured) who goes into the draw for a bottle of champagne at the Club dinner later in the year.
Keep the nominations coming in for July.
May
There were 2 nominations for “Shot Of the Month” both coming from the same match against Houghton Regis and the National top club competition on 5th May 2011.
The nominations were:-
Steve Peck on the last end of the 4s with his last wood trailed the jack for 2 shots to secure an unlikely victory to square the match at 2-2.
Paul Murray on the 21st end at 1 down on the game and 2 down in the head promoted Jack Cawdell’s wood, on the rarely used back hand, into the head for shot which took the game and match to an extra end which was subsequently converted, resulted in an overall win for the club 3-2.
“Shot Of The Month” for May is Paul Murray, alias “Muzza”.
Congratulations to Paul who goes into the draw at the end of season’s club dinner, the winner of which receives a bottle of champagne.
