that Sydney Martin was billeted with John Hume Ross (Lawrence of Arabia) at RAF Manston at the time Ross was
killed in a motorcycle accident. This is historically
incorrect. T.E. Lawrence joined the RAF as John Hume Ross in 1922, and joined a
second time in 1925 as T.E. Shaw, both times as an aircraftsman not an
officer. He died in 1935 soon after leaving the RAF.)
