A
special thank you is due to Yvonne Todd for all the information
about the Mays which she has given to my father and to me from her
own extensive researches.
This
includes some documents which may or may not be relevant to the
above Mays:
A
sale by James May to John Hannam of land at Bullock's Farm in the
Tything of Hillside in the Parish of Odiham in the County of
Southampton on 14 December 1781. 20 acres for 5 shillings! I
think maybe it was a lease rather than a sale.
An
apprenticeship of Joseph May son of James May of Rye Common,
Odiham. Hampshire, to William Booth, bookseller, publisher, binder
and stationer of 5 Duke St, Marylebone, Middlesex, for a period of
5 years from 1 January 1818. The cost to James May was £49.
A
Lease and Release of the Manor Farm of Bullock's to Edward May and
James May 0n 22nd and 23rd May 1775
The
Will of Edward May Yeoman of Rye Common, Odiham, Southampton (Hampshire)leaving
everything to his wife Ann, dated
1 November 1827, together with a declaration by Ann May dated 9
October 1837 that the Goods Chattels and Credits of the deceased
Edward May do not amount to more than £1500
