(Sydney Martin was an engineering officer in the Royal Air Force. Family legend has it that he was billeted with John Hume Ross (Lawrence of Arabia) at RAF Manston at the time Ross was killed in a motorcycle accident.  This is historically incorrect. T.E. Lawrence joined the RAF as John Hume Ross in 1922, and joined a second time in 1925 as T.E. Shaw, both times as an aircraftsman not an officer. Shaw was killed in 1935 soon after leaving the RAF.)
Sydney Martin died of thrombosis in Libya in about 1956.

From the notes of Alfred John Boon:
Nell was the favourite with my parents, living a sheltered life. She had a tubercular elbow as a child, but it did not affect her in later life. She did a term of employment as a nursemaid to a Jewish family, and worked for a short period at Peak Frean’s factory at Deptford. She was disgusted with the work people and quickly left. I can’t remember if she had any other employment, but I don’t think so.

When Sid was stationed at Yeovilton in 1942 he, Nell and Ian (and maybe Barry) lived with us for a time at Yeovil.
