Designer’s Statement
The inspiration for my pieces was looking at different surfaces with both a nature and urban theme. I then recreated these onto cloth in a decorative and interesting way in my own interpretation. Within these pieces I look closely at different effects achieved by using different surface treatments. I also experimented with combining knit with print, ether in image form or in physically attaching knitted pieces. The processes I explored were ways of putting colour onto the cloth in a more artistic style. Other techniques I have used are rust printing, discharge, crimp, puff, pearl, metallic and pigment discharge. My pieces could be used in many ways; I see them as one off fashion fabrics for many uses one of these uses could be for accessories
Aspirations
I am going to work in a gallery and artists retreat over the summer in Co Kerry Ireland. I will also be working on workshops and summer schemes in the art and crafts here and also Ireland. I will be carrying on with the more artistic side of textiles and exploring different mediums and with my own business of knitting and selling scarves that I started at Christmas and now do commissions for customers. I am also spending some of the next year traveling. After which I have great hopes to work in the textile industry, and then eventually doing a teaching qualification so I can teach GCSE, A Level and F.E students. I hope to carry on with my own personal textiles in the future when I have a more established place to work.
Skills
I am PC and MAC literate, organized and good with time management. I have shown this in workshops I have organized and been involved in. I am a valuable team leader and team member. I work well with people, and can involve every member of a team. I also can take tasks and fulfill them. I enjoy sharing my knowledge and information with people from all different age groups. I have done a first aid course in the workplace and health and safety in the workplace. I have a good problem solving attitude and can look at things logically when needed. I have enterprising skills and shown that in my set up of selling scarves. In my personal and professional life I am motivated, positive and reliable.
