One of the proudest moments in my life was when, after eighteen months of training, I left HMS Ganges as a fully trained Boy Telegraphist.  Now, after seventy years of service, HMS Ganges has closed to make way  for a massive Urban Development scheme.  The 142 foot mast has been listed, and will remain on site.

The only part of Ganges still recognisable today is the Parade Ground, marked with a red ‘X’ , and the mast.
