John's professional background

I am a Chartered Electrical Engineer with extensive project management experience in the procurement of various airborne electronic equipment and systems for the UK Government. My career has spanned Quality Assurance, Reliability Engineering, and Project Management of complex systems. After graduation, I was a Government Inspector stationed at industrial factories, monitoring design, development and production processes. Later I was based in Headquarters, as Programme Manager of Research, Development and Production programmes.

I have a strong interest in local (and national) politics and community matters, and practical skills in Information Systems applied to management data collection and reporting. Together with my Certified Diploma in Accounting and Finance this fits me well for management of business.

John's leisure pursuits

My main interest is in community matters and I have been elected to serve on various community organisations including:

• Vice Chairman of Mytchett, Frimley and Deepcut Residents Association (1995 - 1997); then just committee member (2003 - to date)
• Treasurer/Committee Member of my children’s school Parent-Teacher Association (1992-1998)
• Treasurer of the Community Centre Association through planning, construction and initial operation of the Centre. I established the management and accounting procedures that have stood the test of time and with my continued Executive Committee direction resulted in the continuous growth of the net assets (1986 - 1992)
• Chairman of a local branch of a National political association (1991 - 1997); then committee member (1997- 2005); Vice Chairman (Fund-raising) (2005 - to date )
• Instructor assisting my wife in training Cub Scouts (1975 - to date)
• Vice Chairman/Secretary of Mytchett Community Centre Association,  (1997 to 2004) then Secretary since 2004
• Vice Chairman of Mytchett Community Association Social Club (1998 to 2001)
• Gift Aid Convenor of St Andrews Garrison Church Gift Aid scheme (1997 to date)
• School Governor of Blackdown Primary, Deepcut (2003 to 2004)
• School Governor of Grove Primary, Frimley (2004 to date)
• Forum Member of Commission for Patient and Public Involvement in Health, Frimley Park Hospital  NHS Trust (2003 to date)
• Nominated representative as CPPIH Stakeholder on Frimley Park Hospital Foundation Trust Council of Governors (2005 to date)

I was awarded the Queens Golden Jubilee Award for the community and voluntary sector in July 2002, no doubt for some of the above.

I led the Mytchett Community Centre's successful bid for the Queen's Golden Jubilee Award 2003 for Services to the Community, which was awarded at a presentation on 18 June 2003 at County Hall Kingston.

When not attending meetings I enjoy watching serious TV, listening to music such as ELO, Abba, The Moody Blues, Queen (we shan't forget Freddie), Phil Collins and dancing to Madness.

I am a bit of a wizard with MS Access. I get a lot of satisfaction putting it to use managing the data of some of the above charities. I initiated and maintain St Andrew's Church of Scotland, Aldershot website.

Being pretty skilled with my hands, I enjoy Do It Yourself in the house, on my summerhouse and on the car.

I like red wine and the occasional whisky served up in my summerhouse.
