I’ve managed to lay my hands on a rather nice replica of the Culpeper Universal Equinoctial that’s on view in the London Science Museum.
It is one of only 14 made by the Culpeper Instrument Company in about 1985 and was hand engraved by John Grantwick, who had five of them as payment for his work.
I acquired this one from Tony Jenner, who was the Managing Director of the Company at the time.
This, of course, was the dial that inspired the British Sundial Society logo, designed by Chris Daniel.
I try to get everyone interested in sundials, even our cats.
Here’s Oliver guarding the Culpeper dial, and Jim Tallman’s Spectra dial.
