Then, over a year into the project, with most of the hard work completed, body resprayed, engine rebuilt and fitted, it started to rain. And did it rain or did it rain? It rained and rained and rained. For several weeks hardly a day went by without some rain. Eventually, the River Ouse hit its highest level for over 400 years and over-topped the flood bank north of York. These pictures show what greeted us the next morning.

I got worried, although my house wasn't under immediate threat, water was already starting to leak into my garage and form pools in low spots on the floor. I had one quattro on stands in the garage and the other on stands under the blue cover that can be seen in the lower left picture. Luckily, this was the maximum height the water reached and the level started to drop within 24 hours. Two days later the danger of further flooding at that time was lifted but the chances were high that any more heavy rain or snow during the winter would cause us more problems.
