In June 2001, I was shocked to find out I was Diabetic.  Everywhere I looked I could find out bad things about being diabetic. Then I found Bill Casey's 10 Good Things About Being Diabetic and I cheered up. My condition is controlled by tablets and Diet. Here are my  good things about being diabetic:-

1.    Free eye tests.

2.    What's good for me to eat is good for the rest of the family

3.    Eating as much salad and fruit as I like.

4.    Even my feet get looked after.

5.    Free prescriptions for everything.

6.    Good excuse for not eating apple pie (YUCK), or anything else I don't like , without offending the baker.

7. Gobbling down my one packet of sweets straight after my meal on a Saturday night.

8.    Taking it easy when I'm ill or Off colour.

9.    Allowed a supper at night

10.    Always having  to have a  breakfast.

I have joined Diabetics UK, who send me a quarterly magazine, which keep me up to date with what's happening in the world, and well worth a read.  I would also like to give a mention to William Casey who helped cheer me up in the weeks following the diagnosis.  His web-site was the inspiration to write the list.  Visit William's website and click on 'Diabetes for beginners'.
