Jill's g-grandmother, Jean Smith Craig b 1849 is the girl on the right at the very back (to the left of her mother). She would have been about 15 when this was taken. Absent are Joseph, Maryan and John who died before 1851. The parents are William Craig b1814 in France and Jane Aitken b 1817 in Brechin, Forfar. | These are not direct ancestors but what makes this photo particularly interesting is that Jillian is descended from the both the ancestors of William Howat & Agnes Frew. The photo was taken at Lawhead's farm nr Edinburgh. Thanks to Ian Watson who is descended from this line for supplying the photograph. |
| John Smith & Annie Wallace Howat were married in Dreghorn in1890. Their 1st child, Robert was born is Govan, Glasgow. John Smith and Elizabeth Smith (Jill's grandmother), were born in Kilmaurs (next door to Kilmarnock), In 1901 the family were living in Back Street, Kilmarnock. | This picture was copied from an excellent family history book researched and privately published by John Craig Cooper in Canada. The girl on the far right is Ann Aitken Craig b 1844, John's grandmother. Sadly John passed away during 2001. I'm indebted to John, his daughter and fellow researcher Linda Hutton who discovered this book. | The common Howat ancestors are Janet Howat and Elizabeth Rennie who m1795 in St Quivox & Newton district. Wm is descended from James b1803 and Jillian from Peter Thomas b1805. The common Frew ancestors are Francis Frew b1873 and Margaret Wilson b1874 who m1804 in Kilwinning. Agnes is descended from James b1807 and Jillian from Francis b1814. |

| Printed on Kodak Paper with "Official Sponsor Of the Olympic Games". I wonder which year. Annie at the top was born in 1900. Must be 1920 ish? | Robert & Martha, Ian's great grandparents, were married in 1885 in Bridgeton, Glasgow. This was taken about two years before Ian's grandfather Fred was born. The young infant, William, died within about a year of this photo being taken. Thank you, Elaine Suddens for supplying me with this photo. | |
