SHOOTING
Shooting
Shooting in the Sea Cadet Corps is extremely popular with the cadets. Marksmanship is supervised and conducted by a highly skilled core of Instructors to cadets of all ages. The Sea Cadets has a number of different rifle types based on the current UK infantryman issue. Cadets who participate in shooting increase their self-discipline, confidence and good citizenship, all of which are encompassed in our professional training, cadets and adults alike.
Shooting is not only unit based, it is also conducted at area and national levels. Competitions are run throughout the training year and usually conclude with either a National or Inter-service competition. Cadets who show a high aptitude for marksmanship can advance their skill and compete at international level and many have competed for Great Britain.
The basis of shooting is taught through regular and in-depth training, and before a cadet is ever allowed to live fire a rifle of any type, they must pass a comprehensive set of assessments that include safe rifle handling skills. The added bonus is that Cadets can gain proficiency awards up to marksman standard and the skills learnt are directly linked to the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Scheme.
