About Cub Scouts
Cub Scouts are girls and boys aged eight to ten and a half years. 'Cubs' by tradition have adopted many ideas from Rudyard Kipling's Jungle Book. The Leaders are known to the youngsters by the names of the animals in this book, e.g. Akela and Chil. The Adult Leaders are responsible for planning and running the programme of games and activities for Cub Pack meetings, weekend camps, special outings and events. The cubs work in small groups, called Sixes, which are led by older Cubs appointed as Sixers. Cubs will enjoy a great deal of fun and adventure whilst in the Pack, undertaking activities involving cooking, exploring, first aid, model making, helping others, caring for the environment, mountain and water activities. They will also have opportunities to gain awards and badges. These awards are given in recognition of the effort made by each youngster at his or her own level of development and understanding.
