Miner in Pentre until enlistment in the Royal Navy in 1927. Served then until retired in 1959. Worked as a civilian for the MOD until retired on the ground of ill health 15 Nov 1968. Died from leukaemia and diabetes.

William married Ivy Frances Nellie Gush, daughter of Ernest George Gush and Rose Emily Blythe, on 27 Aug 1932 in Weymouth, Dorset (Register Office).
