 General Notes:
An agricultural labourer in of Downholland in the census of 1891 who improved his lot enough to be described as a farmer in Barton Lane, Downholland, Lancs in the 1901 census living with his wife and children. 1 2
James married Alice Royle on 9 May 1889 in Burtonwood, Cheshire. (Alice Royle was born about 1863 in Barton, Lancs.)

Although this appears to be the correct family other sources indicate that a son (William) was born in Apr 1890. He is not recorded in this census and instead there is a son (John) recorded here who is of an age (10 months in Apr 1891) which means he was born in Jun 1890 and that is not possible with William born only two months earlier. This needs to be resolved.
