An agricultural labourer in the 1841 census living at Norton with his wife and children. A labourer in the census of 1851. In 1861 he was employed as a Shepherd on the farm of Robert Marsh, of Woodfield House, Barnsdale, Campsall, a 42 year old farmer of 371 hectares employing 27 labourers and 6 boys. A grocer and agricultural labourer in the 1871 census. George's sister Charlotte was a witness to his wedding.

George was buried in the Cemetery (now Garden of Rest) in Campsall where his name appears on his mothers headstone which still stands bearing an inscription to her and her son: "In Memory of Ann, wife of the late John Ward of Norton, who died March 29th 1868 aged 77 years Also of George their son, who died May 30th 1873 aged 60 years." 6 7 8

George married Ann Myers, daughter of Richard Myers and Ann [UNKNOWN], on 19 May 1835 in Campsall, S. Yorks.1 (Ann Myers was born about 1810, baptised on 2 Nov 1810 in Campsall, S. Yorks,9 died in Feb 1843 and was buried on 4 Feb 1843 in Campsall, S. Yorks 10.)

George next married Hannah Senior, daughter of Charles Senior and Mary Taylor, on 15 Feb 1870 in Campsall, S. Yorks.2 (Hannah Senior was born about 1811, baptised on 23 May 1811 in Royston, Barnsley, S. Yorks,11 died in Aug 1873 and was buried on 2 Sep 1873 in Campsall, S. Yorks 12.)
