Charles Bilbrough
In the 1881 census he was an indoor servant working for John Moulson of Housley Hall, Ecclesfield, a 56 year old farmer of 42.5 hectares. His employer was married with seven children (RG11 4617/4 p2). He was a carter living at Wood St, Sheffield in 1886 (Family tradition is that Charles Bilbrough was an employee of William Heaps and that this is how he met Lillian - who would after all have been William's step-daughter - what is certain is that Matthew and Joseph Heaps were boarding with Charles and Lillian in the 1891 census.) Farm labourer in the 1891 census, carrier/carter 1886-1901 (For instance, the 1901 Kelly's Directory of Yorkshire - Grenoside [Pt 3 pages 701/2] advertises: omnibus. Charles Billbrough to Sheffield. Sundays, Tues. & Sats.) Also worked as a labourer and bricklayers labourer later in life and as a shopkeeper (Post Office Directory 1908 and Kelly's Directory of the West Riding - Sheffield 1912 page 932 Grenoside. Bilbrough, Charles. Shopkeeper). Charles married Lilian Wragg, daughter of Alfred Wragg and Sarah Marsden, on 23 Aug 1886 in Sheffield, S. Yorks.1 (Lilian Wragg was born Sep Q 1868 in Sheffield, S. Yorks?, died on 16 Apr 1950 in Grenoside, Ecclesfield, S. Yorks 9 and was buried in Apr 1950 in Ecclesfield, S. Yorks.) The cause of her death was Myocarditis, arteriosclerosis and cancer of right breast. |
