bullet  General Notes:

Although their baptisms are not recorded in Campsall, John and Mary married in the parish while a Thomas Bilbrough and his daughter Grace were still alive and living in Campsall as well (see the introduction). While I can make no connection between the two lines, perhaps, with Thomas growing old and having only his daughter left, a nephew or similar blood relation may have come to help him out. Interestingly, on 9 April 1778 John Wilkinson married Hannah Readyhoff at Campsall. Since the name is uncommon maybe she has some link to Mary.

John would have lived long enough to experience the floodings of 1763-4 in Yorkshire. These were of an extent and seriousness to make it a matter of at least regional importance. Norton was particularly hard hit. In January 1764 the Steward of the Manor wrote to the College that " ...I never saw so much water here in my time and have known it well above 40 years…" [Darvill, Peter: Norton and St Catherines in Old West Riding Volume 6 No 2 (Winter 1986) page 10].
