I heard about P.A.T. (please click for further information) a few years ago and thought at the time what a wonderful idea it was. Robbie was fairly elderly then, and rather highly strung, so I knew it was probably not for her. When Odin came to us and started to grow up it was obvious to me that he was a very different kettle of fish. So calm and friendly, I sometimes think if he was more laid-back he would fall over! I took him to be assessed and the rest, as they say, is history. He seems to thoroughly enjoy the visits we make to a residential home, and pricks his ears up when I mention getting ready to go. The reactions of the residents and staff make the time very worthwhile. I spent a lot of time in and out of hospital when I was a child, in the days when visiting was very limited. I can remember how much I missed my own dog and it would have been wonderful to have had canine visitors to cuddle. I am so glad that the benefits of
visits to people who do not have the company of their own animals are
now recognised as so therapeutic. The residents where we visit love
seeing him, and tell me stories of their own |
