TODAY'S CAT
From a land of Myths and Legends came a truly amazing reality. With nothing more than a very large melting pot and the

With a
history that dates back to the Vikings, and many theories as to how they evolved,
these enchanting cats are truly a gift from Mother Nature. Their
exceptional hunting ability enabled the Vikings to keep their food supply rodent
free during the long voyages at sea
How
do I begin to describe such a magnificent feline:
A tall, strong ,muscular, athletic, agile, adventurous and
elegant, semi-longhaired
cat. It is an excellent hunter and is thought to be the only domestic
cat that will climb down a tree head
first.
A
Norwegian Forest Cat will not reach full maturity until it is four years old.
It's thick luxurious coat consists of two layers: A dense undercoat to protect
it from the cold and a course water repellent layer to keep it dry. Other
striking features are it's long bushy tail (as long as it's body) a large rough
or mane and it's large (always alert) pointed ears sat high on it's head. I have
purposely left it's eyes until last as it is those large slightly oblique eyes
that give the Norwegian Forest Cats their wild Norwegian look. It is also those
same large eyes that hold you under their spell.
TEMPERAMENT
The
Norwegian Forest Cat holds behind it's wild appearance a very gentle, sweet and
sociable nature. It is truly a delightful feline.
One look into those eyes and you're hooked. They love human company and
although they will usually attach themselves to one person they will also grow
fond of the whole family. They make a great companion cat for people
living on their own as they love to spend time with you and they are also great
helpers !! They have a soft sweet voice (unless your female
is in season) with lots of different sounds and will happily chatter
away. Cuddles, of which they are very fond, will be rewarded with loud
purrs of approval.
The Wegie as they are affectionately known loves the outdoors where they can climb hunt or just watch the world go by. However, they will just as
happily live indoors providing they have company and space in which to play. The
notoriously friendly Wegies are known to get on well with all other animals.
The Norwegian Forest Cat is a natural fishing cat and it is probably this trait
that gives the cat its love of water. They will quite happily join you in a
shower, try to fish the sponge from your bath or curl up in the sink.
