Hello, this is Sam squirrel to tell you another tale.Do you remember Scatty squirrel complaining about the magpies in the garden ?
He was saying that they are not very nice and will rob other birds' nests and attack other creatures.
This story happened in the Spring when the birds had eggs in their nests and they were trying to protect them.
The human Family had lots of different birds in their garden - Blackbirds, Starlings, Robins, Bluetits and even a tiny Wren as well as the Magpies.
One of the Magpies had been after the Blackbirds' eggs and the Blackbirds were trying to chase them off.
The two Blackbirds were diving at the Magpie and heckling him.They managed to get the Magpie to land in the garden and were down there trying to drive him away.
Father human was watching and was amazed (and horrified) when he saw what happened next.
The Magpie grabbed one of the Blackbirds with it's claw, neatly flipped it over and stabbed it through the heart, killing it!
Father human could barely believe what had happened but the poor Blackbird was there lying on the grass dead.
You can see what Scatty meant, when he said that you need to watch out for the magpies!
