Hi, this is Sam Squirrel again with another tale from the human Family.
The youngest grandson was staying with them and he told Mother human this story.
It is all about a mother squirrel, who lives in his garden, and the way she was teaching her babies.
Still, let Grandson tell the tale, in his own words.
Well, Granma, I was looking out of the upstairs window when I saw the mother and you should have seen her! She had the two babies with her on the top of the garage roof.
They were having a lot of fun playing about but mother squirrel had other ideas.
She was there to show them the escape route across the gap between the two houses.She ran along the garage roof and leapt across the gap between the houses.
She landed on the other house wall, ran vertically up the wall onto the house roof.
I was amazed to see her going up the wall so smoothly, there didn't seem anything to cling to.Then she came back down to the babies and gave them a nudge. Neither one moved.
Mother Squirrel had a think (these babies are slow aren't they!) and then did the run again.
This time, when she got back, she gave the biggest baby a very positive push.
And he decided he had better have a go. He couldn't quite reach the wall and tumbled down.He scrambled back up onto the garage roof and had a second try. Well! I didn't think he would make it, but, with a lot of scrabbling he managed to cling on to the wall and climb to the roof.
The mother squirrel was very pleased and so was the baby.
She went back to look for the second baby but couldn't find him. I was laughing as I knew where he was.
He really, really didn't fancy the jump across between the two houses so had hidden in the drain pipe.You will have to read the next story to find out what happens next!!
