25th Anniversary Year - a report by Jill Coleman.

The first of our 2 exhibitions started in January at the Frodsham Castle Park Arts Centre. The exhibition was hung by our members in colour sequence and they acheived a most attractive display.

As the actual anniversary date was October, our main events happened during autumn.

The lecture given by Maureen Weyman, Dean of the Faculty of Art and Design at Manchester Metropolitan University and President of the National Association of Weavers, Spinners and Dyers, had as its title "Textiles - The Way Ahead". She told us of the new printing and embroidering machines now in use which speed up work which used to take a great deal of time and showed us pictures of the students' work in wonderful colours. Afterwards we had a cup of tea and cut the Anniversary Cake at the cathedral.

A reunion lunch was held at the Everyman Theatre restaurant whan old friends joined present members and enjoyed a lovely buffet followed by a chat and a cup of tea in Sister Anthony's studio.

The final event of the year was the exhibition at the Atkinson Art Gallery in Southport. This was hung by the Art Gallery staff and included retrospective work with some very large pieces. A children's weaving workshop was held by members when 120 children from Churchtown School came to see our exhibition and do some weaving themselves - very hard work, but most rewarding.

We all enjoyed our 25th Anniversary Year and look forward to the next 25 years.
