Mountbatten Cards: our suggested charities

25% of the net proceeds from the sale of Mountbatten cards is donated to the charity of your choice.

In 2010 cheques were sent to over 90 different charities.  In particular we suggest The River Thames Boat Project,  The Thames Explorer Trust, Kids for Kids, WWT Wetlands (Barnes), the Artists’ Benevolent Fund, the Friends of Hyde Park & Kensington Gardens, the Friends of Kew,   the Friends of Holland Park,  the Friends of Battersea Park,  St Mary’s Church, Barnes or The Richmond Theatre Trust.  However, remember that when you choose a Mountbatten Christmas Card you can donate your gift to any charity of your choice – we believe we are the only card company that provides this unique facility!

The River Thames Boat Project (Registered Charity No. 1080281) gives people of all ages the chance to access the Thames, to discover this fascinating river, and to learn more about its environment.

Their specially adapted community barge, the Richmond Venturer, provides day and residential cruises for people of all ages and abilities from its berth in Kingston upon Thames, and is also used as a floating classroom by local schools.

Relying entirely on voluntary donations, they offer heavily subsidised voyages tailored to the needs and interests of children and adults with disabilities, the elderly, community organisations, schools and adult education colleges, as well as individuals who are not part of any group.

For more information go to www.thamesboatproject.org

The Thames Explorer Trust works to teach people about the Thames so that everyone can take a part in planning a healthy future for the river. They want to give people from all parts of the community the chance to get out there exploring - along the river, on the foreshore and on boats.  The Trust was set up as an educational charity in 1988 by a group of people concerned for the future of the Thames. From small beginnings, the organisation has grown, establishing itself as an expert in Thames-related matters.  They offer:

They also run projects to help improve education and access to the river.  They can offer foreshore visits for children with learning difficulties, who are in wheelchairs and those who are blind or deaf. Go to www.thames-explorer.org.uk for more information.

Thames Explorer Trust is a company limited by guarantee (Registered Company Number 2396145) and a registered charity (Number 1010903). The registered office is The Pier House, Corney Reach Way, Chiswick, London W4 2UG

The Friends of Hyde Park & Kensington Gardens; the Friends of Kew; the Friends of Holland Park; the Friends of Battersea Park; St Mary’s Church, Barnes; WWT Wetlands (Barnes) and The Richmond Theatre Trust are all societies which aim to encourage the preservation of their respective parks, gardens and buildings.

KIDS FOR KIDS (Registered Charity No. 1090046) are providing long term, self-sustainable solutions in North Darfur, west Sudan. KIDS FOR KIDS is the only charity working exclusively in the villages of North Darfur, helping people to regain their self-sufficiency and to stay in their villages during the current terrible crisis.  KIDS FOR KIDS projects not only survive, but are thriving.  “Peace is so urgently needed” says Chairman, Patricia Parker “and the international community simply has to put pressure on everyone involved to do their best to bring it about, but we cannot wait for things to happen while children need our help. Our projects, working with the villagers themselves, are enabling us to change lives now and to bring hope for a better, more viable future”.

KIDS FOR KIDS’ integrated projects are enabling people to survive at home in their village. The loan of a goat (just £9.00!) transforms children’s lives, providing a source of milk with essential vitamins and proteins. And excess milk can be sold to pay for water, education and medicine. Access to seeds, a donkey and plough along with training in simple terrace building and irrigation techniques can help small farmers to produce enough for their village.

But water is the first priority for people and animals.  Many women and children spend up to 70% of their time seeking water.  KIDS FOR KIDS’ hand-pumps are already providing water on a daily basis for 4,600 villagers.

KIDS FOR KIDS is run by volunteers so that every penny goes on the projects.

The purchase of just a few Christmas Cards could pay for another goat!  For more information about ways you can help visit their website at www.kidsforkids.org.uk or telephone 01306 887624
