Every club has its unsung heroes, and in the Couch Brothers, Stones have not a comedy duo, but a couple of diamonds. Meet Roy and Alan, probably the nicest guys at Wealdstone.

Many Stones fans still aren't totally sure which is which, but this is Alan. Alan can regularly be seen sitting in the Director's box at away games in particular even though he is not a director. Alan has undertaken any number of tasks for Stones over the years (here he can be seen collecting gate money). My dad's earliest memories of him were when they sat together on the Supporters' Club committee in the 70's, both participating in the memorable mass resignation of that committee in protest at the behaviour of the Football Club. Together with brother Roy, Alan would regularly take up his seat about 4 or 5 rows back on Coach 1 for away games. Them were the days! |
| Roy is probably the better known of the Couch brothers, certainly by name, for Roy has been providing statistics to Stones fans now since the mid 70's. Although he started simply with better quality league tables published in Colin Pope's measly programmes, Roy's speciality soon became compiling compelling statistical booklets for Stones fans' bedtime reading. Now programme editor (and seen here selling programmes on matchday), Roy's abundance of amazing facts, coincidences, recollections, ground-hopping experiences and yet more stunning statistics never cease to amaze. |
