This following document will describe what to do if you are ever faced with the above scenario. You will be stuck in what seems like a loop after registering the Set top box account. Each attempt to access the internet via different URL’s will result in the start screen (as below) being displayed.

The cause

There are usually two possible causes of this particular problem.

  1. The cookies are set-up incorrectly in internet explorer.
  1. The network adapter (USB or Ethernet card) hasn’t actually registered and the registration process will need to be followed again.

The Solution

The first thing to do is to establish the IP address. If your IP address starts with a 10.xx.xx.xx after rebooting the STB and then the computer you can usually safely assume that the Ethernet device hasn’t registered correctly and will therefore need to be registered once more. To be certain of the IP address, release and renew the IP information after rebooting the STB and the computer.

However if you find that the registration process has gone as planned and you now have a public IP address then it is very likely that cookies hasn’t been configured properly in Internet Explorer. A public IP will usually be in the form of 80.xx.xx.xx or 81.xx.xx.xx or 213.xx.xx.xx.

Cookie configuration

Internet Explorer version 5 and 5.5

Launch Internet Explorer and select Tools > Internet Options

A new box will open within Internet Explorer. The first tab displayed is the General tab. Click delete files.

When prompted, tick the small box for offline content to be deleted too. This will clear the local cache of the browser.

Next choose the security Tab. You will be presented with the security section of Internet Options. You have four different Zones. These Zones are Internet, Local Intranet, Trusted sites and restricted sites. Select each zone one at a time. Each time you select one make sure you click the Default level button. This will configure all four different Zones to the default level. If default level is not available you can assume that the default level has already been selected for that zone.

Once you have set all four zones to the Default level, be sure to click Apply before pressing OK.

You have now correctly configured your browser for Cookies. Close down Internet Explorer and restart it. You should now be able to browse the internet.

Internet Explorer 6.0

Launch Internet Explorer and select TOOLS > INTERNET OPTIONS.

The first Tab you see is the General Tab. Click on Delete Cookies. Now click on Delete Files.

A small box will appear make sure that there is a tick to delete all offline content. Press OK. The local Cache is now cleared.

Click the Security tab. This will take us to the screen below. There are four Zones, Internet, Local Intranet, Trusted sites and restricted sites. Select each zone one at a time and click the default level button. If the default level is not available you can assume that the zone you are on is already set to default level. Once you have done this for all four zones click APPLY.

Now we have set the General and Security tabs we shall move on. Click the Privacy tab. Click Default. Now click APPLY followed by OK. This will close the Internet option box.

You have now configured the Browser correctly for Cookies. Close the browser down and restart it. You should now be able to browse correctly.
