The team coped
well with the very warm weather and were much too good for their West
Riding County Amateur League opponents. |
|
Westend started
well, surprising the home team with some excellent moves and going very
close on more than one occasion in the first twenty minutes. Headers
from Toyan Greaves and Sam Boothroyd were saved and Dean Knox should have
done better with another headed chance in the 25th minute. A fine
run by Sam Boothroyd ended with a trip in the area but Matthew Sanderson
fired tamely at the keeper from the spot to give the home team a lifeline. |
|
South Bradford
looked dangerous on the break and keeper Darren Weaver had to pull off two
good saves to keep them out. The introduction of Dorran Noel ten
minutes from half time proved decisive and his superb right wing cross
gave Peter Tomlinson a simple chance to head past the keeper from ten
yards in the 40th minute. |
|
The second half
saw the visitors piling on the pressure and a quick free kick from Frank
O.Kenn gave Tomlinson the chance to score his second and effectively end
the match as a contest. |
|
After a spell of
incessant attacking play a great run and cross from Tom Wigley was
diverted into his own net by a despairing South Bradford defender to give
the visitors a comfortable 3-0 lead. |
|
Tomlinson missed
two easy chances and Frank O.Kenn and Paddy Chapman both went close in the
dying minutes. |
|
Tom Wigley and
James Prieditis took the Man of The Match honours closely followed by
Dorran Noel, Darren Weaver and Jack Taylor. |

27 players enjoyed a rare tropical evening
at Westend. |
|
Highlight of the night was the usual late
arrival of Spina (on 58 minutes late) and a cracker of a goal from Toyan
with his very first touch. |
|
Ben Johnson and Sam Boothroyd were
outstanding in the first team squad and Reserve team manager Andy Noble
was impressed with Jack Taylor and Chris Hampson. All four players
get the chance to push for a first team place on Saturday against South
Bradford. |
|
Tom Wigley was unavailable due to having to
attend his 18th Birthday celebrations. Ricky is confident that he
ordered steak and eggs for his main course. |
|
Seven sessions gone and only Sam, Bou, Guy,
Dean and San can boast 100% records. |
|
(Sat
19 July) |
|
The
players enjoyed a light speed training session put on by Andy Noble,
followed by a closely contested conditioned match. |
|
Amongst the
players to catch the eye were youngsters Chris Hampson, Tom Johnson,
Josh Lockwood and Adam Haigh. |
|
Sam
Boothroyd, Marvin Gaye, Tom Wigley and James Prieditis were the pick of
the others. |
|
Despite
their late arrival Frank O.Kenn and Kenny Okonkwo both showed they have
lost none of their fitness with some excellent touches during the
match. Both players look eager for action and we will hopefully
see more of them during the pre season training. |
