Ricky takes on the Tiger Challenge

Chairman Ricky Thwaites will be in charge of the under 11 Tigers squad when they resume action on Thursday 21 August. (6.00-7.00pm).  Andy Dorotiak will be the manager of the under 11 Lions and he is looking forward to his first season in the RCD Junior League.

Ricky is ready for the challenge saying:" I have been very impressed with this group of players and I am sure they will be yet another Westend squad to be proud of next season".

The Chairman is looking forward to September and in line with all the other Tigers teams at Westend FC he will make sure that all the boys (regardless of ability) get a chance to play regularly in the RCD League throughout the season.

Westend will definitely have TWO teams (Lions and Tigers) in the RCD under 11 section next season and are hoping that some new players will join in the next few weeks.

Places are still available and players of all abilities are welcome to join.    Contact Ricky 07703 040845

Westend stalwart Darren Weaver asks "Can you help Ashleigh?"

          Old mobile phones wanted!

"Ashleigh has been successful in gaining a place on an expedition to Kenya in 2009 with the Yorkshire Schools Exploring Society. Whilst in Kenya she will be experiencing typical village life and helping to build a school for the local children, plus collecting data for the Kenyan Government and running various conservation projects. As part of the experience £2,500 needs to be raised to enable Ashleigh to accept this placement."  If you can help by donating an old mobile phone please pass them to Darren Weaver or Ricky Thwaites.

Chaddy End take the honours at Westend

The Westend Tournament has become one of the most popular events on the local junior football calendar and once again lived up to its reputation with more than 1,000 boys and girls enjoying a feast of fun football at the Westend Soccer Centre.

The host of professional club scouts must have been impressed with the quality of the football played throughout the day by all the teams.

Chaddy End took the honours by winning both the under 10 ‘A’ and ‘B’ sections.  The Oldham based squad played some brilliant passing football beating HAFC and Yorkshire Lions in their respective Finals.

Glen Juniors made their trip from Leeds worthwhile beating a plucky Hepworth team 2-1 in a very exciting Under 11’A’ Final.

The ‘A’ section under 9 Final saw Dewsbury Rangers beat Hepworth Rangers 1-0, but Hepworth Town beat their fellow United team 3-1 after a dramatic penalty shoot out in the ‘B’ section.

Collegians and Honley won their groups in the under 12 section beating Hepworth and Yorkshire Lions respectively.

Westend FC would like to thank Huddersfield New College for their support and the army of volunteers who worked so hard behind the scenes to make the 2008 event the biggest and best ever.

“That was a magic day,” said Westend chairman Ricky Thwaites.  He was well pleased with how well the event had gone saying: “ The standard of play was excellent and apart from the odd exception, the behaviour of players, supporters and managers was superb”.

Entry forms for the 2009 Tournament will be out on the first day of January.  The event is usually fully subscribed within 4 weeks, so clubs wishing to come again next year should keep an eye on www.westendjuniors.com
