In what year was Westend Juniors formed, and how many players attended the first training session?

1991, and four boys were present.

Is it true that for twelve years Westend never charged a membership or training fee?

Yes.

What age groups do you cater for, and how many players have you got on your register?

Over 400 boys and girls from four to sixteen, plus two Open Age men's teams, and one Ladies.

How many times have Westend won the League and Cup in the Junior 11 a side League?

We have been Junior League Division One Champions 10 times, and have won the Junior Cup on 7 occasions.

Why do we never see Westend teams in the Junior Mini Soccer League?

Many of these matches are played in a far too serious manner.  We like our players to enjoy their football without pressure.

When did Westend become an FA Charter Standard club?

In 2001 we were the first junior club in the West Riding to achieve Charter Standard, and moved up to Development Standard one year later.

Can only the most talented players join the Westend Academy?

No! Every player regardless of ability will be offered a chance to join the Academy.

 

What was the priority objective in 1991?

To enable youngsters from all social backgrounds to enjoy playing organised football for fun as inexpensively as possible.

How many youngsters do you estimate have played football at Westend since then?

Approximately 3,000

Westend have earned a reputation second to none in the area.  Does this mean you only want good players to join?

No!  We treat every player who joins the club with equal respect.

Have any Westend players made it to Professional level?

One of our ex Westend Juniors Cameron Jerome is now playing for Birmingham City.

Why is the Westend Saturday morning mini soccer so popular?

The emphasis is on enjoyment, everyone gets to play regardless of ability, no travelling involved, no League tables, and no pressure.

Does this mean that talent scouts from professional clubs never get a chance to see Westend players?

No!  We have regular visits from professional clubs. 

Why has the Westend Girls' section taken off in such a big way?

Girls' football is the biggest growth sport in the country at present, and we are playing our part in this success.
