About the Site
Templates and Library Items
The site was programmed in Macromedia Dreamweaver MX. Two particular features were used to allow various elements to be kept consistent across the site as necessary.
Templates
An overall template was defined that contains the overall page layout. The advantage of this method is that if for any reason an element needs to be changed on all pages, it is simply a case of changing it on the template, and all of the pages based on that template will be updated accordingly.
Another advantage of templates Dreamweaver Templates is that they are only used for the creation of the site. Once the pages are generated, they are standard HTML, and do not rely on the proprietry Dreamweaver format.
Library Items
Library Items were used for the navigation menus on the left of the site. The menu items could not be included in the template since they are not identical across the whole site. However, because they are repeated across the pages within a section it was useful to have them as Library Items, which can be reused.
