About the Site

Site Graphics

The main graphical element, the brain logo in the top left corner, was created using the Gnu Image Manipulation Program. I started with a plain picture of a brain:

The background colouring was removed using the 'magic wand' selection tool. The image was rotated and sharpened:

The short tail stump of spinal column was extended by duplication to provide an element tying together the top title bar with the left menu. A gradiated fill was applied over the 'spinal column' to make it fade out:

The 'colourify' tool was used to apply the attractive purple hue to the whole image. Next the GFlare light effect filter was used to create a 'flash' centered on the frontal lobe (for aesthetic, not scientific reasons!). Text was added in the Viner Hand font:

Two sections were taken from this image to act as the top title bar and left menu graphic. The GFlare filter was reused on a blank image, and an appropriate section taken to form the extension of the flare across the whole top bar:
