Saturday 18th February 2006 | Forza is having a massage Forza Barry! is going to be a little quiet for a while, hopefully for only a week or so. In the meantime, go and have some fun with everybody else in ever-busy guestbook of the former official Barry Town website. The link is on the top of the page here. Don't forget that the Linnets' Lotto Draw takes place at 7.30pm in the Castle Hotel, Jewel Street every Monday night. Try it, you might like it. Today's game against Admiral was called off, so our next scheduled match is versus Llantwit Major at Jenner Park on the 25th. UP THE LINNETS! Wednesday 15th February 2006 Fixtures list for March Barry FC face a tough month in March when they take on Cadoxton Imps, Rhoose, and St.Athan. We've met all three teams previously - Barry beat Caddy Imps 5-4 in a thrilling game at the Buttrills back in October. Another thrilling game saw Barry battle to a creditable 1-1 draw away at Rhoose, and more recently St.Athan beat the Linnets 3-0 at Jenner Park. Despite these relatively decent results, Barry had to work damn hard for the win and the later draw. Currently on a run of three back-to-back losses, Barry FC will again have to battle hard in order to get much from these games. But we all know they can do it! Those fixtures; 04.03.06: St.Athan v Barry 18.03.06: Barry v Imps 25.03.06: Rhoose v Barry Tuesday 14th February 2006 Linnets Lotto Draw Numbers There were no winners at last night's Linnets' Lotto Draw, and so next week's winning pot rises to £450. ![]() ![]() Barry FC played for the first time in its blue and yellow away kit on Saturday - sponsored by Compliant Personnel - as Sully were playing in their green and white hoops. It must have done Tim's head in no end. To see more pictures of the match and of the new kit, click HERE. Saturday 11th February 2006 Sully 3 Barry FC 2 The Linnets were out-scored today, if not out-played by a strengthened Sully squad eager to avenge the shambles of the previous meeting of the two teams. With Barry themselves suffering major losses in the form of Kevin Owens up front and Damian Lack in goal, it was always going to be a case of inexperience in goal and less ability in front of goal. Saying that, it was Barry who enjoyed the majority of the play today, and were it not for two horror shows at the back, the story could well have been very different. With Player-Manager Ashley Griffiths drumming into the players at half time that "The next goal is the winner", Barry came out with all guns blazing. Barry had already given away two soft goals in the first 20 minutes of the first half, but had dragged themselves back into it with a converted penalty by Mattie Davie. With the game on a knife-edge at 2-1 early on in the second half, Barry endeavoured to gift Sully a crucial third goal when an easy bobbling ball was not picked up by stand-in 'keeper Josh in the Linnets goal. Sully pounced, and it was 3-1 and game over. Or was it? Barry, though irritated with themselves with bloopers at the back and the majority of play in the other box with no reward, were playing some entertaining football. The best move of the game resulted in a Mattie Davie goal to bring it back to 3-2, and that knife-edge was re-sharpened. Time ran out on the Linnets though, and despite having plenty of shots and pressure, it was Sully who actually went closest to scoring when a cross-shot rolled along of the Barry crossbar with only seconds remaining. Barry return to League action next week on the back on a three game losing streak against Admiral. Saturday 11th February 2006 Sully v Barry FC (again) Barry FC travels to Swanbridge today to take on Sully Sports in the ASRS Cup in a 2pm kick-off. This will be the 4th meeting between the two sides this season, after we lost 1-0 pre-season, drew 1-1 at Swanbridge and then won convincingly last month at Jenner Park. Tuesday 7th February 2006 Inaugural Linnets Lotto Draw Numbers In a well attended first ever Linnets' Lotto Draw, held at the Castle Hotel last night, the first numbers were drawn and... there were no winners. The six not-so-lucky numbers were : 2, 7, 9, 10, 13, & 15 This now means of course that next week's numbers will be drawn from nos 1-19, with the pot rising to £350. Much appreciation goes to the players and fans who turned up, special guest number puller Paul Daniels, and A2B Taxis who sponsor the draw. Mr.Daniels was well impressed with the amount of tickets sold for this first draw, and with the jackpot rising significantly already this week, it's hoped that more people will buy and sell tickets over the coming weeks as it all helps pay the costs of running the Club, and is in part vital to the ongoing success of Barry FC If you'd like to contribute to the Club by either buying or selling (or both) Linnets' Lotto tickets, then these will be freely available at every match day - home and away - at the Monday night Draw at the Castle Hotel, or by contacting Barry FC directly on 01446 734050. Sunday 5th February 2006 Match day pictures Don't forget that pictures of yesterday's clash with Colcot can be accessed by clicking on the 'pictures' link above, or HERE Saturday 4th February 2006 'Linnets Lotto' starts this Monday. OFFICIAL PRESS RELEASE: Barry FC have this week launched their new club fundraiser, the Linnets Lotto. The first game of the simple to play lottery takes place next Monday, 6th February at the Castle Hotel in Barry (7:30pm), where an opening prize of £250 is up for grabs. The draw will then take place every Monday evening. Like the National Lottery, the Linnets Lotto involves participants choosing six numbers on a gamecard. In the first week of the game, there are twenty numbers to choose from, but, for every week in which there is a rollover, there will be one number less in the game until the jackpot has been won. Barry FC chairman, Tim Johnson, hailed the start of the Linnets Lotto: "It’s a very exciting game to play. As a local community club, most of the tickets will be sold in Barry and the Vale. This means that the winners will almost always be local – people that you see on the street, in the shops, down the pub, and of course, at the football. "It’s very important for a growing and ambitious club such as ourselves to have a regular fundraiser like this and we hope to quickly develop a regular network of sellers and players in Barry and the Vale. "We have made great strides as a club within the last six months, but now we need to keep that momentum going and we look forward to seeing old faces and new at the draw at the Castle and at our remaining home matches at Jenner Park this season.” For more information on the Linnets Lotto and to become a seller, contact Barry FC on 01446 734050. |
