Safety
Our club prides itself on it's safety record.
All members are provided with hearing protection free of charge, all newcomers will be shown how to safely operate & shoot their chosen weapon & existing members have access to Coaching via the more experienced club members who have qualified to coach, again this is provided free of charge.
Range Safety.
Obedience to the following Safety Rules ensures that accidental discharges of Firearms on the firing range CAN NOT happen. Carelessness or a disregard for these rules is unsafe behaviour.
THE RANGE WARDEN OR OFFICER IS AUTHORISED TO ORDER ANY PERSON OFF THE RANGE WHO DOES NOT COMPLY WITH THESE RULES.
General Rule:- No firearm is ever safe (unloaded)unless it is proved to be so.
Only the person plus an instructor or coach if required, will be allowed to occupy a firing point at any one time. Friends and/or spectators must remain to the rear of the firing point. Children under 14 are not allowed on the firing point, unless receiving instruction in the use of a firearm, and then only if in he control of a qualified instructor.
Pistols must be carried Broken on the range. Automatics/Semi- Automatics must have the magazine removed.
Rifles must be carried with the bolt open And Back in such a way as to expose the breach fully.
No firearm may ever be pointed at a person for Any Reason. Dry snapping must only be done with the firearm pointed down the range.
No firearm is to be loaded other than on the firing point and with the muzzle Pointed Down The Range towards the stop butt. Once loaded the firearm must only be pointed down the range until it is unloaded and cleared.
All firearms must be Unloaded Before Leaving The Firing Point. All Pistols should be cleared, ie, verified as being empty, by a Range Official After the Magazine Has Been Removed And Whilst Still Pointing Down The Range, Firearms must comply with the Rule 2 above Before leaving the firing point.
Sights must be only adjusted with the firearm Unloaded and the muzzle pointed down the range.
No occupant of the range may go in front of the firing lane towards the stop butts unless the range officer has given permission to do so. In any case of fault or difficulty the first duty is to notify the range officer and request assistance.
No firearm may be discharged until Range Officer has given the signal to do so and has not subsequently given the order to cease fire.
Smoking is not allowed on the Firing point. Empty cartridge cases must not be left lying on the firing point.
Avoid inhaling fumes emitted from the breach of the firearm after discharge.
Ear defenders must be worn by all persons on the Firing point while shooting is in progress.
