Brighton Barbarians (Saxons) vs Chichester (Sussex “A” League Final)

Date : 29th March 2009

Venue : Hove

Meeting the team that we defeated 19 – 0 in the opening league fixture of the season, expectations were high. A single match of 25 minutes each way was all
that stood between the Barbarians and their third successive county
championship title. After a hesitant start, tries by Lucas and Luke, with conversions by Maxx, saw the Baa Baas open up a 14 – 0 lead. Within two minutes, however, Chichester replied with an unconverted try followed late in the first half by two more tries (one converted) to give them a 17 – 14 lead over the Baa Baas at half time. An early try in the second half by Luke restored Brighton’s lead before Chichester again went ahead with a try in the fifth minute. A purple patch in the middle of the second half, with tries by Josh, Luke and Lucas (all converted by Maxx) put daylight between the sides and, despite conceding a try five minutes from time, the Baa Baas lifted the league title with a final score of 40 – 29

Brighton Barbarians (Saxons) vs Haywards Heath (League)

Date : 8th February 2009

Venue : Waterhall, Brighton

Due to pitch conditions at Haywards Heath this, already postponed, “away” match was switched to Brighton in order to avoid fixture congestion. The Saxons started brightly with Charlie carrying the ball virtually the entire length of the pitch and putting Maxx in to score in the 3rd minute. A tense first 20 minutes saw a ding dong battle with both sides scoring twice (Luke Q scoring Brighton’s second) and only 2 points separating the sides. Tries by Lucas (21st
min) and Luke Q (25th min) and two more conversions by Maxx meant that the Saxons went in 26 – 10 up at half time. A 5th minute try in the second half by Haywards Heath was eventually answered by tries from Jack (15th min), converted by Maxx, and Lucas (30th min) bringing the full-time score to 38 – 15. With the bonus point, the Saxons climbed to the top of the Sussex A league table, by one clear point, for the first time this season !

Brighton Barbarians (Saxons) vs Eastbourne (League)

Date : 21st December 2008

Venue : Waterhall, Brighton

Their third league fixture of the season saw the Saxons at home to an Eastbourne side looking for their first victory. Regrettably (for them) they met a Barbarians side still smarting from the defeat by Worthing and found themselves on the wrong side of an 89 – 0 drubbing.
Tries by Luke Q (3), William (3), Josh (3), Charlie (2), Tim, Lucas, MacCaulay and Navan. Cons. by Maxx (7).

Brighton Barbarians (Saxons) vs Worthing (League)

Date : 30th November 2008

Venue : Worthing RFC

For their second league fixture of the season, the Saxons were away at Worthing. Conceding an early converted try, the boys recovered mid-way through the first half to take a 21 – 7 lead into half time. After the break, a determined and disciplined second half performance by Worthing saw them turn the game around, scoring 19 points unanswered, to run out worthy winners by 26 – 21.

Brighton Barbarians vs Chichester (Sussex League “A”)

Date : 19th October 2008

Venue : Waterhall, Brighton

Brighton Barbarians (U-13) got their league season off to a bright start with
19 – 0 win against Chichester. Camped out in the Chichester 22 for much of the first half, the deadlock was finally broken when Luke Quincy ran on to a kick by fly-half Lucas Aresti to touch down for the first try. Two further tries in the second half, scored by Lucas Aresti and Njoku Nwawudu along with two conversions by Maxx Morris, sealed victory for the Barbarians.
