General Secretary's Report

Congratulations to all the clubs and individuals that had a successful season in 2008/09.

The number of member clubs in the Association has fallen to 16. Two clubs, Blantyre Sports Cantre & Parklands left the Association due to falling numbers, but there was one new entry from East Renfrewshire Juniors, into the Mixed and Gents Doubles leagues.

At the AGM on 3^rd September 2009 it was decided to retain the Mixed Doubles League format as four couples playing single ends to 30 points with no setting. The Gents and Ladies Doubles Leagues, the Swan and Jack Trophies and the Jubilee Cup will all continue to play the best of three ends to 21 points with setting as appropriate. The new rally point scoring system will be used in all games. Please contact me if further information is required.

Please note that score sheets must be returned to the Divisional Secretary within 7 days. Please also note that, to help the Divisional Secretaries, the sheets should be completed neatly with the scores of the completed games and the totals, points and games, completed. It is acceptable for the signed score sheets to be e-mailed to the Divisional Secretary where they have a published e-mail address. These are given in the Divisional Secretaries Page of the Handbook (Page 5). If this method is used it would be useful if a copy of the e-mail is sent to me to keep the league tables on the web page up to date.

Some Clubs were finding it difficult to find dates to play Trophy/Cup matches and so the Executive Committee decided to arrange the dates for the first ties. This has been done except for the Jack Trophy semi final. Please try to play the Trophy/Cup matches on the dates arranged. Other matches to be agreed between the clubs as before, i.e. home club to offer two dates clear of fixtures.

With respect to the tournaments run by the Association, these were all very successful with some new winners. The Balloted/Seniors tournament ran at a financial loss due to a poor entry in the Balloted. However, as in previous years the Executive Committee has decided to subsidise the tournament and keep entry fees low to encourage players to enter. This is on the basis of the Association’s healthy balance sheet. Please take full advantage and enter the tournaments and take part in these enjoyable events! For the first time for several years the Annual Championships ran at a slight profit due to a good entry and some court time savings.

The Annual Presentation Dance, held in April, was organised by Brenda Rourke of Cathcart South. The event was held at Score in Shawlands and those present had a very good night. Thanks to Brenda! Please try to attend this season’s dance, details will be made available to your club secretary later in the season.

I would like everyone to note the Web site for the Association is continuing with the Constitution and Rules, the handbook, fixtures, league tables, results, some history of the Association and information for clubs wishing to join.
