General Secretary's Report
The Association
was formed in 1930 and this coming season, 2005-06, is our 75th
year. A special
committee has been formed to plan and arrange some special events to take place
during the season. Full details will be published later but the events are
likely to include a Dedication Service, a Special AGM, a Fun Night, a Special
Event at the Tournament and others. There will be some fund raising /
sponsorship to help pay for the special activities and if you have any ideas
for this or for events please contact me, or any committee member.
I would like
to congratulate all the clubs and individuals that had a successful season in
2004/05.
The number of
member clubs in the Association has risen slightly with two new clubs joining
the Association there being 19 member clubs compared with the 17 that took part
in the Leagues last season. However more clubs would strengthen the Association
and I would ask everyone to encourage any other clubs they may know of to
consider joining.
There are
fewer league and cup matches being conceded but score sheets are still not
being returned timeously. This situation has improved with the introduction of
the rule that both clubs have to return score sheets for each match and that
e-mailed score sheets were accepted where the Divisional Secretary had an Email
address. These are given in the Divisional Secretaries Page of the Handbook
(Page 5). If this method is used it would be useful if a copy of the e-mail is
sent to me to keep the league tables on the web page up to date.
With respect
to the tournaments run by the Association, these were all very successful with
several new winners. Although the tournaments ran at a loss this was due to the
Executive Committee’s decision to subsidise the tournaments and keep entry fees
low to encourage players to enter. This is on the basis of the Association’s
healthy balance sheet. Please take full advantage and enter the tournaments and
take part in these enjoyable events!
The Annual
Presentation Dance, which was cancelled in April 2004 was held in September and
was very successful. The Annual Presentation Dance for season 2004/05 was
arranged by Blantyre Sports Centre at the Power League in Hamilton. Although
the numbers attending were lower than expected all those attending had a very
enjoyable evening and thanks go to Shona, Joyce and David for the work they put
into the event
I would like
everyone to note the Web site for the Association is continuing with the
Constitution and Rules, the handbook, fixtures, league tables, results, some
history of the Association and information for clubs wishing to join.

Jim McCulloch
