shrubs:I have chosen the shrubs in my garden in much the same way as i chose my trees and flowers.Everything here has some value to wildlife, whether it`s berries, fruit or seeds for food,or dense cover for wildlife to hide or nest in.

Shrubs planted about 3feet apart can quickly establish, and flowers can be planted in between. Be sure to plan carefully when selecting shrubs;be aware of the eventual size, growth rate, preferred soil type, and whether it likes sun or shade. Many shrubs can be incorporated into a mixed hedge,i have about 15 metres of hedgerow planted alongside my house. It`s not very big,but i hope that even on a small scale,it will be beneficial to wildlife.
my favourite shrubs for the wildlife garden:

Berberis
Broom
Buddleia
Cotoneaster
Elder
Gorse
Holly
Privet
