Charles Davidson was born about 1840 in Ireland. He married Johanna Osborne on the 2nd December 1867 at the Parish Church in Armoy, County Antrim, Ireland. She was born about 1850 in Ireland, to parents Samuel Osborne & Elizabeth Young. According to their marriage certificate, Charles Davidson was a farm servant residing in Monanclogh, a small settlement just north of the town of Armoy. His fathers name was Alexander Davidson. Somewhere between 1871 - 1873 , Charles & Johanna and their two daughters Elizabeth and Mary Ann, moved to the West Lothian region of Scotland. They lived in various local towns and villages including Blackburn and Bathgate until the census of 1881 puts them at Barracks Rows, in Livingstone. Shortly after this they had moved to the village of Uphall Station in West Lothian. Sadly in 1885, on the 24th March their daughter Mary Ann passed away aged only 14. Cause of death given as ' valvular disease and hypotrophy of the heart ', from which she had been suffering for six months. The 1891 & 1901 census of Scotland continue to place Charles Davidson in the village of Uphall Station. It was here on the 9th June 1908 that Charles passed away aged 67. His wife Johanna passed away on the 26th June in 1913 aged 62 years. |

Alexander Davidson (1875 - 1962) & Margaret Wright |
Alexander Davidson was born on the 22nd December 1875 in Bathgate, West Lothian. He married in the village of Uphall Station on the 12th February 1897 to Margaret Wright. She was born in 1877 in Kirkaldy, Fifeshire to parents Lawrence Wright & Jane Donaldson. In the 1901 census of Scotland they were living in the small village of Tarbrax, Lanarkshire with their two children Jane & Joan. Alexander's occupation recorded as 'shale miner'. Later about 1910 they lived in the nearby hamlet of New Woolford's in Lanarkshire, known locally as 'The Wurrits'. The purpose-built miner's cottages in Woolford's were all built on one side of the road, with the main doors usually located at the rear of the property. The bathrooms were located just inside the door at ground level, so the workers could clean themselves before entering the rest of the house. Sometime around 1930, the family then moved to the city of Edinburgh, and lived in Eltringham Terrace. Unfortunately a few years later their youngest son Lawrence died on the 27th December 1934 aged only 18. Cause of death given as peritonitis and appendicitis, from which he had been suffering for 20 days. Alexander & Margaret were also preceded in death by their daughter Catherine Armour nee Davidson. She passed away on the 31st January 1943 at the Victoria infirmary in Glasgow aged 39. During World war 2, Alexander & Margaret Davidson moved south of the border into England and settled in Coventry in the West Midlands. Alexander died in 1962 aged 86. His wife Margaret died in 1967 aged 89. |
