Press Reports

Worms in the news. Whatever next? Flying sheep?

When news was released that a 3D Version of worms was to be created, many people were sceptical as to how the conversion would fare for the armless, pink-skinned creatures. This included the press and there was mixed reports on the matter.

E3 allowed Team17 to showcase Worms3D on the Sega stand. This was the first real look that the industry got of the game, and it altered some views. Edge Magazine stated, "Team 17 doesn't appear to have diminished the elementary nature of the game at all." in their Worms3D E3 Preview in issue 125. Some still harboured their doubts on the matter though.

In August 2003, some magazines published their previews of the game, where it became obvious, due to shining reports, that Team 17 had once again pulled it out of the bag. View the NGC Preview and the MW Preview.

In October 2003, XBM Magazine released issue 25 containing a review of worms3d that said "Hiding behind girders and lurking on hillsides is infinitely more difficult, leaving the game open to complete carnage.". This pretty much captures the feel of the game now. Read the Full Review.

In the same month, PC Gamer published a 3-page review by Tim Edwards. He appreciated the engine behind the game, stating, "What his[Martyn of Team17] team have created is special - environments that are fully deformable". Read more of the review on pages 1, 2 and 3.
