Jim Lawton

This question is clearly a symptom of the onset of age - in my youth a much more usual question was "where am I", I usually knew who I was. Another question that sometimes went with "Where am I" was "Who are you?", but we are talking the 1960's here.

This website is just a vanity-publishing affair. My name figures here and there on the web, mostly in relation to folk music, and so this is a place for people to go to see what sort of animal I might be, if they find my name on the odd CD or in the odd magazine. I don't claim to be any sort of artist. What I do I do mainly for my own pleasure, and because other people ask me to.

I sing traditional songs, and songs that are in the traditional style, occasionally I manage to generate a laugh, whether intentionally or not hardly matters. I MC some of the concerts at Otley Folk Festival, and I edit Filofolk, the listings section of Tykes' News, both on and off the web.

Recently I've had the chance to expose myself on stage - perhaps expose my talent would give a better impression. I have constructed two "entertainments" - mixtures of song, story and humour. The first, "Grit" tends toward a Yorkshire theme. The second "Detritus" tends toward madness.

Comments :- "Amazing" - J.S., "Give up the day job" - P.O.

That's it. No more about me shall you learn, except what's revealed elsewhere in these pages.
