Events: Charity Concert
'Les enfants de l'espoir' Saturday 5th July at 8pm The Youth Choir LES ENFANTS DE L'ESPOIR from Besancon in
eastern France will be coming to West Byfleet the first weekend of July as
the first stage of their first-ever UK concert tour.
This well-traveled group of young singers has already visited
25 countries on four continents and in 2007 celebrated 25 years of music
and 20 years of its unique child sponsorship programme. Donations received
at the choir's concerts have funded the education of over 1000 children
worldwide who might otherwise have become victims of the worst form of
exploitation. In all, almost £600,000 has been raised over the years (this
equates to around £500 each and every week). During its two-week visit to the UK the choir will be received at diverse venues including Southend-on-Sea, Huddersfield and Salisbury Cathedral. They are delighted to be able to launch their tour in the renowned acoustics of St John's, where they will give a short concert of sacred and popular songs on Saturday 5th July at 8 pm (free entrance), and will also take part in Choral Evensong on Sunday 6th July at 6.30 p.m. |
