Joyce McArthur was married in 1934 and moved to Netherlee in the south of Glasgow in 1935. It was in 1950 that she organised a dance class in Room 2 at the Couper Institute with 38 ladies and one couple attending. Some of the original dancers are still members today. Youngsters Marilyn Gibson (now Marilyn McClure) and Jenny McArthur (Mrs McArthur’s daughter) made the tea. Due to ever increasing numbers the club moved to Netherlee Scouts Hall in 1953 when it became a couples club - then to Netherlee Pavilion in 1975. The McLellan Galleries hosted the 21st Anniversary of the Club with Miss Milligan (one of the two founder members of the RSCDS) as the Guest of Honour.

Mrs McArthur moved to Strachur in 1968 but still ran the class travelling every week to Netherlee throughout the Winter months until her death in 1996. She received her much-deserved Scroll from the RSCDS in 1992 for her contribution to Scottish Country Dancing. A memorial dance was held in her honour on February 1997 in Clarkston Hall.

Anthea Cameron assisted Mrs McArthur with the dance instruction from 1988 to 1994

Janette McSporran was the Netherlee Scottish Country Dance Club’s pianist from 1976 until she took over the responsibilities of Club Instructor in 2000. She resigned as Club Instructor in 2006.

A formal presentation to Janette took place on Thursday 16th February 2006 in the Netherlee Pavilion, Netherlee, Glasgow.

Margaret Willaimson took on the role of Club Instructor in 2006.

Margaret has had a lifetime interest in Scottish Country Dancing beginning at primary school, in the Girl Guide Movement and throughout her teaching career to the present time. It was during her teacher training at Jordanhill College of Education that she obtained her RSCDS teacher training certificate in 1952.

She has lived in East Kilbride for over 40 years and has taught country dancing to many children over that period. Margaret assists Margaret Martin with her class in the Red Deer Centre and runs a class of her own in Claremont Church, all in East Kilbride.

Iain Campbell has provided original and lively music to suit the club night dance programmes since 1983.

The club web site was set up in November 2003 with the approval of the 2003/2004 committee. To date the web site has attracted an average of 19 hits per day or 570 hits per month. The web site is currently run by Derek Petrie.

The club celebrated its 50th Anniversary in 2000 and to mark the occasion organised a magnificent Dinner Dance in the Macdonald Hotel , Eastwood.
